FRIDAY, May 9 Film
The final film in the free "Friday After Hours" film series. co-sponsored by the Bartlett Public Library and Arts in Bartlett, is May 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the library at 800 S. Bartlett Road This film is “Dayereh (The Circle)" a 2000 Iranian film in Persian with English subtitles, which won the coveted Golden Lion in at the Venice Film Festival. Director Jafar Panahi deals with a wide gamut of female gender issues in Iran, using a structure similar to the later films of Robert Altman, presenting a collage of separate incidents involving various characters who are somehow connected and come together at the end.
As Panahi's narrative shifts dynamically from woman to woman, their stories culminate with tremendous potency, transforming a shared sense of despair and injustice into one kinship, and even hope.
